I’m a "young" Vietnamese girl who had a very lucky opportunity to be in Denmark for two and a half months of NGO management training course.
I have been working for a Danish NGO, Agricultural Development Denmark Asia (ADDA) in IPM farmer training project in Vietnam since 1999 where I have learned experience and contributed my small parts for the development of our country. Also, in which, I have learned about Denmark: its people and culture through activities of project, also through the visits of Danish experts and ADDA board members to Vietnam which was pushed me to get a chance to go to Denmark to see and get feelings by my real eyes.
I arrived at Copenhagen, capital of Denmark in the morning of a very nice sunny day after a long trip took over 10 hours on flight. We get in a train to Arhus in an hour later and reached there in the afternoon. The emotions and imaginations about this country mixed in my mind and it seemed to be smashed into pieces when I was there, putting my first step in a very developed country in the world. The country that I found is very calm, peaceful and beautiful with a lot of green trees, long beaches and developed public transportation system.
My training course gathered people from different countries where had supported projects of Danida. We came from the poor Asia and Africa countries as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, Ghana, Uganda and etc... Participating in the training course, we had learned a lot about the country, culture, educational and politic system and knowledge of NGO management and etc... And the most important thing that we have learned is the way of Danes thinking and working. Wherever we go, whoever we meet, we always received their warmly and friendly welcome.
Above all others, I had unforgettable time with Niels Johansen, chairman of ADDA family and other ADDA members where I found a very warm atmosphere and being so good taken care as a member of their family. Staying not so close, but Niels and his wife, Evelyne frequently visited me at my school brought to me a sentiment of parents to the daughter.
I stayed in his house, had meals as they used to eat in the garden, cooked together in the kitchen, walked in the forest together with Evelyne, visited the small village where they are living before and now, and had a long talk from one to another story until midnight... Everything made me feels as I stay in my family and it makes my time in Denmark more significant and unforgettable. I don’t know how to express my sincerely thanks to my dear Evelyne and Niels and other ADDA members let me understand what they are doing for Vietnam.
A cosy spring season is coming in Vietnam. In Denmark now is the winter season which everything is covered by the white color of snow. I read Andersen’s Fairy Tales which was the gift from a Danish friend tonight, I miss a pretty easy being moved Evelyne, I miss a good-hearted and humous Niels, I miss a sweet singing voice Bodil and I miss the days in Denmark...
